The ifritah crew created this half hour multicultural fire show to showcase our unique fusion of dance & build a platform for kiiki to share her culture, skills and talent.

Originally created for. “river lights ” festival in Maitland our annual multicultural festival.

The performance is 2 x 15-minute shows of choreographed fire dance often using group pieces.

Kiki spent many years in bali doing large group fireshows and has a lot of experience in this very unique area.

It was also an opportunity for us to share culture though our first language- dance.

I’m incredibly proud of this palm candle piece with 5 dancers as it combines Indonesian steps and bellydance moves making a new fusion that still honours its cultural roots.

Austrailains often use the word multicultural to describe the continuation of cultural practices, which is important but we wanted to make something new out of our pasts something that allowed us to connect on a deeper level, to learn a little language, geography and deepen our understanding as dancers.
